As a licensed physical therapist, my practice includes general orthopaedics and sports medicine, but I have a special interest in the care and treatment of disorders of the knee and shoulder. Like many other physical therapists and health care professionals, I was introduced to my profession as an athlete and then as a patient. I was involved in various sports throughout my childhood and teen years, and then I injured my knee playing rugby in college. I had to spend numerous hours with a therapist and an orthopaedic surgeon, and then, ten years later, had a more extensive surgery with one of our own surgeons at OSC. I also worked as a lifeguard for many summers and volunteered for a rescue squad for six years, both of which allowed me to witness several types of injuries and gave me the opportunity to treat a number of different dysfunctions. I believe that these experiences allow me to relate well with patients and enables me to help them achieve the most successful outcomes in the shortest period of time. It is my mission to provide all patients with excellent service and compassionate care.
I believe that patient education is the key to success during rehabilitation. The more that a patient understands about his or her diagnosis, and the more information given to correct the problem, the more independent he or she can be after therapy is completed. I try to teach patients how to maximize their results, minimize their pain, and promote long term wellness. I also believe in analyzing the patient as a whole person, and not just isolating their treatment to a specific body part in order to allow them the highest level of functional mobility. I have had the opportunity to mentor physical therapy students both as a clinical instructor and as a manager to employees and volunteers; again helping to educate people about my profession.
In addition to my physical therapy practice, I enjoy the outdoors, gardening, traveling, and spending quality time with my family.
