October is Physical Therapy Month and We Have a Lot to Celebrate at OSC!
Physical Therapy can be an essential component to recovery from many musculoskeletal injuries or conditions, aging or other factors that cause loss of mobility and function. When used appropriately, it can also help to rehabilitate patients so that they do not need to have surgery to restore function.
Contrary to what some people believe, Physical Therapy is not just exercises and ice packs. PT is a evidence-based, clinical form of physical medicine (also known as physiotherapy) that looks at the whole person, how they move and function and whether their body is in proper alignment to perform not only the daily activities of living, but also high-demand activities, such as those who participate in amateur, collegiate or professional sports.
The skilled Physical Therapists and Therapist Assistants at OSC have a great deal of experience in working with Orthopaedic and Pain Management patients, and coordinate care with the physicians who practice here. Our therapists have a “hands-on” treatment approach and spend time with our patients to understand their specific needs and goals. We design rehabilitation programs to help our patients to realistically achieve those goals. Our Therapists utilize many different tools to help patients and they can vary from exercise machines to ultrasound, from hot packs to traction machines.
In the next few days, we will profile our therapists and some of the specialized services that we offer, such as Dry Needling, Manual Therapy, Kinesiotaping and Laser Therapy. We know you will be interesting in learning about these pain-relieving modalities and how they can help you feel better.
The OSC Physical Therapy Center is located right across the street from our main office at 298 Nat Turner Boulevard in Newport News, VA.
