Medical Transcriptionist

Position Description:

On-site in Newport News, Virginia


  • Applies knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology to the transcription and proofreading of medical dictation from originators.
  • Edits voice files and transcribes physician dictation to include notes, letters and abstracts history and physical information into the patient chart.
  • Clarifies dictation that is unclear or incomplete, seeking assistance as necessary.
  • Proofreading and correcting documents for spelling, grammar, and physician errors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum five years medical transcription experience preferably orthopaedic or radiology experience.
  • Must have basic computer skills with a firm understanding of Windows, Microsoft Word, and Internet Explorer. Experience with NextGen a plus.
  • Must possess basic knowledge of the physical exam process.
  • Must understand medical terminology and conditions.
  • Ability to accurately and effectively perform documentation requirements in electronic patient documentation systems required.

Job Type:

Full-time, on-site, Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm

PTO Leave  – Full-time employees are eligible for 3 weeks of paid time off after 12 months of employment. PTO leave increases with years of service.
