Orthopaedic Surgeon | Joint Reconstruction | John D. Burrow, D.O.

Dr. John D. Burrow (“JD”) is an Adult Joint Reconstruction fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who has been with OSC since September of 2013. While his practice is focused on total and partial joint replacement and joint revision of hips and knees, he provides general orthopaedic care for patients as well. From sprains and strains to fracture care to treating advanced stage arthritis with joint replacement surgery, Dr. Burrow is qualified to diagnose and treat most musculoskeletal conditions. Dr. Burrow performs Direct Anterior Hip Replacements (Jiffy Hips), Subvastus-approach (tissue-sparing) knee replacements, as well as arthroscopic knee reconstruction and hip injections under fluoroscopy.

Dr. Burrow is an expert at the surgical replacement of arthritically damaged joints. He sees many patients for the treatment of their arthritis, starting at the early stages with conservative treatment, like physical therapy and medications, and later, with surgery. He also does not only the primary joint replacement (the first time), but if a person must have that same joint replaced again (secondary replacement). His Fellowship training also included surgically revising and reconstructing prosthetic joints for patients who have had complications from surgery, infection, wear and tear, prosthesis aging or from conditions such as osteoporosis. Revision and reconstruction surgery is more difficult and takes specialized training, more surgical planning, and advanced technical and surgical skills to work with less bone, more scar tissue and typically older, less conditioned, or healthy patients. Dr. Burrow works with the patient to develop a specific treatment plan that addresses the individual’s activity level, work life, conditioning, and overall health so that the patient can progress quickly to recovery and a return to movement.

Dr. Burrow hails from Western Tennessee and is married to a practicing family physician here in Newport News. They have two children. Dr. Burrow enjoys hunting, fishing, Jeeping, automotive restoration and “pretty much anything outdoors”.
