I asked my Rheumatologist to recommend an Orthopedic Surgeon that he would personally use himself and he recommended Dr. Robert Snyder of OSC. So, I had a consultation with Dr. Snyder and did some research on my own and in July of 2013, I had Bilateral Knee Replacements on the inside portion of my knees by Dr. Snyder. Dr. Snyder uses the ConforMis System, which is a patient-specific replacement system and this really appealed to me, as it should provide a better fitting and functioning replacement.
I am more than pleased with my outcome and am able to do the things I enjoy again, without pain. I tried knee injections in early 2013, with my Rheumatologist, but they did not help, so I’m glad he recommended Dr. Snyder. But, there is more to my journey. I would definitely recommend OSC and any of the doctors I saw during my eight year journey . I now consider OSC my one stop shop for joint pain .
I recently had a total knee replacement at the Orthopaedic and Spine Center (OSC). I have written a testimonial for Dr. Boyd Haynes and highly recommend OSC, particularly Dr. Haynes and his surgical team, for this procedure. Further, I chose the OSC Physical Therapy team for my post-op physical therapy provider. After 2 weeks of home therapy, I was ready for my outpatient therapy.
Dr. Paige Tretter was my lead therapist. Her team consisted of Bill Richards (PT Assistant) and Brittany Hodges (PT Technician). Dr. Paige designed a detailed PT plan for me after conducting a range of motion assessment of my knee. She provided me an at-home exercise program to be integral to the OSC exercise plan. By following her plan, I was able to meet my range of motion goal ahead of schedule. I then progressed to leg muscle strengthening.
I had 8 x 1 hour therapy sessions at OSC PT. My PT Technician, Brittany Hodges, escorted me to my exercise locations and coached me through each exercise to ensure I was doing each properly. At the conclusion of each session, Bill Richards did a progress assessment to ensure I was progressing. At no point, did I feel duress throughout my sessions. Every exercise was a positive experience.
I highly recommend going to OSC PT for your outpatient knee replacement physical therapy treatments. Throughout my 4 week program, Dr. Paige and her staff were very professional, encouraging and just plain friendly. I enjoyed my experiences at the OSC PT Center. Note however – self physical therapy at home IS absolutely essential to reaching your therapy goals. This takes commitment to the OSC plan for your complete surgery recovery.
I had a total knee replacement at OSC at the end of May 2021. Dr. Boyd Haynes ( and PA Chris Schwizer) performed my surgery. I strongly recommend going to OSC and requesting Dr. Haynes in particular, for this surgery. Their services are conservative, comprehensive and professional. I requested Dr. Haynes because he previously performed hip replacement surgery on my wife and her experience was excellent.
Dr. Haynes was very thorough in terms of discussing my knee surgery and recommended for me outpatient surgery. He detailed every step of the procedure, answering clearly my questions. I reported to the hospital at 8:00 AM. By 9:30, I had completed my pre-op procedures and met with Dr. Haynes’ surgical team. The next thing I remember was waking up in a large comfortable chair at 12:30 PM. My leg was wrapped in an Ace bandage from the middle of my thigh to my ankle. The entire procedure was absolutely pain free. I was a little groggy at first, but soon ready for discharge. I had no problem getting into the passenger side seat of our car.
The next day I was visited by Dr. Haynes’ home physical therapy staff. Dr. Haynes does not use stitches or staples to close the wound. A surgical tape closes the wound and is pain free and comfortable. My wound was text book perfect. I was given a home exercise program and therapy schedule to ensure a successful surgery. Home therapy took 2 weeks (2 visits/week). I elected to go to the OSC Physical Therapy for my out-patient physical therapy. I highly recommend this group for your 4 week post-op physical therapy. The OSC Physical Therapy program is integral to Dr. Haynes’ surgical plan for a successful knee replacement. Note – it is essential to do your home exercises as prescribed by the OSC Physical Therapy professional staff. Increasing range of motion and strengthening your leg muscles are critical to a successful knee replacement.
In summary, I strongly recommend using all of OSC’s services. I especially recommend having Dr. Haynes and his team perform all aspects of the procedure. I give Dr. Haynes my highest recommendation, trust him implicitly and am very pleased with my new knee. I’m back to walking several miles per day and I’m confident I’ll be playing golf again soon – pain free.
As a nurse practitioner and a case manager, my priorities for a knee replacement were to minimize risk for infection, have effective pain management, coordinated care and optimal recovery of functional movement. Dr. John Burrow and his team prepared me with what to expect, how to prepare for the surgery with pre-op exercises and and with clear infection prevention instructions for the 3 day skin prep prior to surgery. The exercises pre-op made for optimal recovery of movement and strength post-op. I was up walking with no walker at 2 days and driving at 2 weeks and back at work in under 3 weeks (my job requires little movement and I could elevate and ice my knee as needed).
The team at Mary Immaculate Hospital is laser focused on infection prevention and pain management. The unit RN and therapy staff work in a coordinated manner to manage pain, increase mobility, prevent infection and blood clots. They have a nurse-patient navigator (Nancy) that is well versed in post-op knee replacement recovery and Dr. Burrow’s expectations. She was available to answer all questions. and provided me many helpful tips for managing pain without fear. Ice and Tylenol worked wonders and minimized the need for opiates after the first 48 hrs. She, along with the nurse case manager, coordinated my DC and post-acute care services for home care, prescriptions, follow- up appointments, post-op instructions, etc.). The Knee Replacement Recovery handbook is well done, easy to follow and extremely helpful.
This is a comprehensive program that is based on research and is patient-centered. Knee replacements are not easy, but this team approach makes for the best outcome. At 12 weeks post-op, I am walking 2 miles, riding my bike, doing exercise classes and able to work on my feet without pain for 10 or more hours a day.
This team is the best and I am so thankful to Dr. Burrow for giving me my back my active lifestyle with minimal pain and functional movement.
I’m an Operating Room nurse at a local hospital. I injured my right knee in 2011 and was told by an orthopedic surgeon that I would need a total knee replacement in 1 to 5 years. By 2015, I needed some sort of intervention to that right knee and consulted Dr. Boyd Haynes. At the very beginning of treatment, I told Dr. Haynes that I wanted to stick to less invasive measures and wasn’t interested in a total knee replacement. He agreed with the previous surgeon, in that I would eventually need knee replacement surgery. He was very understanding and assured me that he’d do everything he could to treat my knee without surgery. He said to let him know when I was ready to have that knee replaced.
He was true to his word and my treatment plan started with steroid injections and progressed to hyaluronic acid injections. Finally, I decided it was time to have my knee replaced. I was very apprehensive about surgery…concerned about the pain and had heard terrible stories about the physical therapy that would follow. When I told Dr. Haynes I was ready….there was no “I told you so…or what took you so long”. He was very supportive and assured me that I’d made the right decision. I had a right total knee replacement in March, 2020.
It’s been 1 year and I can honestly say that having knee replacement surgery was nothing less than life changing. My coworkers can’t believe how “normal” I’m standing and walking! My biggest regret is that I waited so long to have it done. If you’re on the fence regarding treatment…whether joint replacement or more conservative measures…my best advice is to get the best treatment done as early as possible. Don’t put it off! For me, the discomfort from the surgery was much less than the discomfort I was experiencing on a daily basis.
The entire team at OSC provided excellent care and were always available to answer any questions I may have had. Dr. Haynes & Chris (Dr. Haynes’ Physician Assistant) proved to be very committed to providing patient-centered care. I am thoroughly pleased with my results!
I have had pain in both knees for several years and had knee arthroscopies in the past. Even after I retired, I continued to work in my own lawn care business and the pain continued. I finally made an appointment with Dr. Boyd Haynes to see what could be done. He found bone-on-bone and told me that I would know when I needed to have knee replacement surgery. I was convinced and scheduled my first surgery for January of 2020. With Dr. Haynes’ expertise and my ,hard work with Physical Therapy (PT), I was back to normal walking, range of motion without pain.
This past January, I had my left knee replaced and again, with his skill and PT, I didn’t need a walker, just a cane at first, then he measured me and I had 0-degree extension and well over 100-degree flexion. He was pleased as was I, and am now working as before surgery, but without pain in my knees.
Even though I am 74 and a diabetic, I was able to maintain good Blood Sugar levels throughout.

Thank you, Dr. Haynes for your care and expertise in bringing me back to better mobility and pain free knees. My advice is to not wait too long and do what the doctor tells you, work hard and you, too, can, in return, have the knees of your youth!
I have seen several doctors at OSC over the years; most recently Dr. Martin Coleman. I was referred to him by Dr. Mark McFarland for shoulder surgery which was successfully completed. Dr. McFarland helped me with back surgeries and knee replacements. In the past, my mother saw Dr. Raj Sureja and we both felt the same about his services and knowledge.
Each experience with the Doctors at OSC has always worked out well. And any interaction with the staff there has only shown me very caring, informative and knowledgeable people.
I would highly recommend the Doctors at OSC – and in addition their support staff.
Thanks for making my surgeries a whole lot easier and with better results than they might have been.

At the age of 81 years young, I had full knee replacement surgery, performed by Dr. Boyd Haynes in March of 2020. I was very nervous about everything and waited a few years too long to have the surgery. Looking back, I wonder why I was so nervous. Dr. Haynes and his team were very patient in walking me and my family through the entire process. They leave nothing out and my surgery and recovery went great!
I went home on the same day of the surgery. Everything that morning went exactly as Dr. Boyd described. Both of my sons accompanied me to the hospital on the day of my surgery. They told me later that Dr. Haynes met with them immediately after the surgery, explaining how it went, answered their questions and told them when they would be able to see me.
Being able to go home the day of my surgery was great. On the second day, I was up and walking with a walker. At this point of my recovery, I began my PT and in home exercises. Dr. Boyd’s primary directive for the best chances of a full recovery was simple and straight forward, “do your PT and follow up exercises”. My PT was conducted at home because of Covid-19; all of the in-home Physical Therapist’s and nurses were wonderful to work with. My exercises and PT began on day two. With my daughter-in-law acting as my at home PT coach, she ensured I followed Dr. Boyd’s primary directive. This is not the most fun thing you will experience, but you will make progress each day.
My final follow up with Dr. Haynes was completed in early March 2021. I am now pain free in my knee. I am able to walk, go up and down steps without the use a cane or walker. I’m enjoying myself again with family and friends and have Dr. Haynes and his entire team to thank for that.
I highly recommend Dr. Haynes and the OSC Physical Therapy team. I would be remiss if I failed to mention Dr. Haynes’s Physician Assistant, Chris Schwizer. He was also wonderful to work with and always made me feel I was in great hands. Dr. Haynes’s team, their professionalism, bedside manner and his cheerful laugh lets you know he cares.
This is a one year anniversary follow -up review of my right knee total replacement by Dr. Boyd Haynes. As a recap of the prior review, I walked up and down the stairs normally, but carefully, on the twelfth day after surgery. A month after surgery I was walking up and down the stairs normally. I have had continuing recovery as I kept up with the recommended exercises. I have a stationary bicycle and a treadmill that I use regularly, since I was mostly housebound for the last year due to the Covid-19 recommendations to not travel unless necessary. I can do whatever I was able to due before surgery, with no restrictions. My only problem is still some stiffness when trying to squat or sit on a low stool. Sitting down and standing up in a regular chair or sofa is not a problem.
I would highly recommend Dr. Haynes to anyone who is contemplating knee replacement. He, his team and the OSC Physical Therapy team are excellent, and provided the best care I could imagine. Only one caveat: if you have the knee replacement surgery, follow the recommended exercises every day; it will make the recovery much faster.
Had a total knee replacement done recently by Dr. Boyd Haynes at OSC. Well, that was a trip. It was a experience that I was a bit scared of, but I was treated very nice and with total respect. I felt relaxed and had no real heavy duty pain. All nurses were sweet, and I admire Dr. Haynes. Known this Doc for years, and he will always be my OSC Doctor.
