I had Physical Therapy for a Right Hip Replacement, which took about 8 weeks. I can say I was ready to get working on the hip.
Heather and Cody were great therapists. They kept me focused and made sure I was doing the workout correctly, so I would get the best help for my hip and answered any questions I had. All employees managed themselves very professionally and were friendly. I would recommend OSC to anyone in need of therapy.
I went to the OSC Physical Therapy Center when I had my knee replacement surgery and the Therapists there were so great, I knew I wanted to go there when I had my shoulder surgery for my broken shoulder.
As I expected, everyone I saw there helped me get more movement and less pain and more strength in the time I was there. Tom Toothaker, Jamie Swale, Victoria, Bill, Heather, and all the other assistants I saw were AWESOME!
A special thanks to “Wolverine” for the help with my good arm after a nerve was bruised from a needle while having my blood drawn at a different doctor’s office. I forgot his real name. LOL.
But if I ever need any therapy again, I would choose OSC Physical Therapy without any hesitation. They are great, and most of all effective!
Dr. Jamie Swale and and PT Tech Mrs. Maria were a pleasure to work with. Their patience with me was exceptional. I had several other pre-existing conditions with my neck and foot which made the treatment a bit more challenging. They were very understanding and worked with me to treat my lower back issue. I can’t thank them enough for all the helping me to learn what I need to do to continue to improve and prevent the pain from returning.
I’m very pleased with the care Dr. Toothaker, Victoria and Tom gave me when I was under their care. It was very hard when I first started, but each visit was better then the one before. I would recommend this practice to anyone in need of physical therapy.
Thanks so much. I’m on the good left knee now.
After over a year of pain and dysfunction, I asked Dr. Jeffrey Carlson to proceed with a total knee replacement. From my very first appointment, Dr. Carlson was always attentive, warm, friendly and extremely professional; providing me all the answer to my questions and concerns. His entire office staff at The Orthopaedic & Spine Center [Newport News, VA] is wonderful.
The surgery went very well and was followed by a course of physical therapy. My progress was rapid and my recovery completely successful. I had wonderful results and enjoy pain free, full function of my knee. I only wish I had done this two years earlier.
I feel that Dr Carlson is simply the best orthopedic surgeon anywhere. He is a true professional with the highest surgical skills. My advice; if you are considering TKR, don’t wait; do it now. I am totally satisfied with my knee replacement and will always be grateful to Dr Jeffrey Carlson for restoring my quality of life.
On 8/17/16, I had a total knee replacement performed by Dr. Boyd Haynes III. In the past, I used another physical therapy center, but after visiting OSC’s physical therapy center, I was extremely impressed! My Physical Therapist, Dr. Jamie Swale, and her Physical Therapist Technician, Maria Shanks, have done a phenomenal job during my PT!
My last day is scheduled for 11/3/16 . In the beginning, I went to physical therapy three times a week for the first two months and am now down to two days a week, since I wanted even more flexibility. It is important to do your physical therapy at home so you can achieve the most flexibility possible and continue to strengthen your body. Both Dr. Swale and Ms. Shanks challenge their patients and push them to their potential, not their frustration level. Dr. Swale and Ms. Maria Shanks did such a great job that I will be requesting them again in 2017, when I have my other knee replaced. Thank you for ensuring your patients do their exercises correctly and push them to their potential!
It is two and a half months since Dr. Boyd Haynes III, from Orthopedic Spine Center in Newport News, performed my total knee replacement.
There are four things to consider when having a knee replacement. The first is, having a list of questions ready for your surgeon. Secondly, find an excellent surgeon, Dr. Boyd Haynes III for example, who listens to your concerns and considers everything before replying. Third, make sure you do your physical therapy exercises as instructed, remember to ice, and elevate the area. Failure to do physical therapy will result in a long recuperation period. Melissa Wickline from Bayada Home Health Care gave me two weeks physical therapy at home prior to attending Orthopedic Spine Center Physical Therapy Center 3 times a week. Lastly, if you need additional physical therapy, do whatever it takes to get your range of motion back. Speak to both your surgeon and physical therapist before considering low impact water aerobics at the Y, using the elliptical and the recumbent bike on the days you do not have physical therapy.
I chose Orthopedic Spine Center for my physical therapy, since they work one on one with their patients and care about your pain level and progress. I cannot speak highly enough about Dr. Jamie Swale and Ms. Maria Shanks! Kudos to all that helped make my surgery a success!
Attended physical therapy for lower back pain and realignment of hips. During the process I was encouraged by the care shown to me to remedy physical conditions through strengthening and corrective measures.
There were several team members Dr. Jamie Swale, Victoria, Heather, Fred, Maria and Tom who assisted me and their instruction, patience, and encouragement to go further in the therapy aided in my recovery. It can take a village and this group of professionals gets it done. Also kudos to the administrative staff during check-in. The welcome and admittance team keep all on time. Physical Therapy is important in the scheme of wellness. I am glad this team was on my side.

Maria does an awesome job. That’s a compliment for sure. She challenges me to do more each time I see her. I enjoy having her as my Physical Therapy tech. The entire OSC staff is great and very professional.
Want to give a shout out for OSC PT – Dr. Jamie Swale and especially her technician, Maria. I have a lot of arthritis in my lower spine (it’s rampant in my family of 8 siblings). Recently, it flared up considerably. OSC-Ortho Dr. Carlson referred me for PT. Dr. Swale interviewed me and has supervised my progress over the last 6 weeks. I have a couple more weeks to go.
All the techs have helped me well, but Maria deserves top kudos for her thoroughness and rigid execution of all exercises. She stands by; and if you are doing something incompletely, she immediately jumps in to correct your movements so that you get the most advantage of your time and efforts. Early on, tech Heather worked with me, too. She was excellent in recognizing and correcting alignment irregularities in my spine.
In all, my progress is noticeable; and all their work is bearing fruit. Thanks to all.
