Orthopaedic & Spine Center Launches
Community Foodbank Fundraising Effort Through Facebook
The first full week of November, celebrated as National Philanthropy Month, the Orthopaedic & Spine Center in Newport News launched its inaugural online social giving campaign in support of the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula.
For every new ‘like’ the orthopaedic practice receives on its Facebook page through November 24, it will donate $1 to the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula.
“There are few causes that touch such a large part of our community so deeply,” said Jeffrey R. Carlson, M.D., Managing Partner of the Orthopaedic & Spine Center. “We are doing our annual food drive, too, for the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula, but we thought this would be a great way to help spread the message of the Foodbank, get us all involved and support the cause to an even greater degree.”
The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula is a charitable organization that solicits, receives, inventories, store, and distributes purchased and donated food and grocery products to charitable agencies that directly help the needy. They serve families in Gloucester, Hampton, James City, Mathews, Newport News, Poquoson, Surry, Williamsburg and York. Since 1986, the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula has distributed nearly 150 million pounds of food with more than eight million of that getting distributed last year alone.
