Gary Benoit – Knee Replacement Surgery with the ConforMIS System

My story is rethinking life with severe Osteoarthritis (OA), albeit “tri-compartmental O/A bone-on-bone” in my left knee. The disease was severe and getting progressively worse. The pain in my left knee caused me to miss out on family activities and just getting around in general. Working with Dr. Boyd Haynes and his PA, Christopher Schwizer, collectively we came up with a plan. I was comfortable going to Mary Immaculate Hospital for surgery, after all, I have heard positive stories about the hospital. This made my journey relatively easy.

I had a CT scan on my left knee for a ConforMIS designed knee implant. All of my information was sent to Boston, MA. The implant hardware was to fit my knee like a glove, perfect fit. My surgery was set for 12 Sept 2018. All went well and I was released the next day, with no pain.

The next few weeks were spent with OSC Physical Therapy (PT). Mr. Jim Koske, MPT, and Ms. Victoria Skay, LPTA, developed a series of exercises to increase my range of motion (ROM) and quad strength for my left knee. At the end of two weeks, my ROM was 98 per cent. However was expecting to achieve more. It is anticipated by 18 Dec., 2018 (next appointment) that I will successfully achieve 105 degrees, if not more.

My personal thanks to Dr. Haynes, his staff and to OSC PT, that made me do the tough things in order to get better. It was a stellar performance by all to get me back to a new normal life. Again, my personal thanks.
