Governor Ralph Northam announced yesterday that elective surgeries will be allowed to resume in the Commonwealth on Friday, May 1, 2020. Area hospitals will begin ramping up for normal operations, as resources once diverted to the care of COVID-19 patients will be returned to the care of surgical and acute care patients. Due to the unprecedented events of the past few months, hospitals will be implementing new procedures to ensure the safety of their patients, employees and physicians.
Bon Secours/Mercy Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, VA, will be implementing drive-through testing for all surgical patients, to prevent the spread of COVID-19. All surgical patients will be required to have a test for COVID-19, 72 hours before their scheduled surgery. Surgeons will also be subject to regular COVID-19 testing.
If you have been previously scheduled for an orthopaedic surgery with one of our physicians, you will be called with a reschedule date by your physician’s surgical scheduler. You will be given instructions at that time on when to report to the hospital drive-through COVID-19 testing site.
We appreciate your understanding as these new processes are put into place and as we work to get all of our surgical patients rescheduled for the care they need.
