Disc Degeneration

As with other parts of our body, our spinal discs degenerate as we age. Degeneration is a normal part of aging but can potentially be painful. OSC Physicians start with conservative treatment (ice or heat, non-steroid anti-inflammatory medications, bracing, and physical therapy.) More advanced care may involve epidural injections. Surgery may be recommended and involves either a spinal fusion or replacing the damaged disc with an implant, known as disc arthroplasty.
