Carole A Benton-Lewis – Total Knee Replacement

Carole

Had a total knee replacement done recently by Dr. Boyd Haynes at OSC. Well, that was a trip. It was a experience that I was a bit scared of, but I was treated very nice and with total respect. I felt relaxed and had no real heavy duty pain. All nurses were sweet, and I admire Dr. Haynes. Known this Doc for years, and he will always be my OSC Doctor.

Ellen Morello – Outpatient Total Knee Replacement

Dr. Haynes ready for surgeryOver a period of 2 years, I saw Dr. Boyd Haynes and received cortisone shots to ease pain in my right knee. When the shots failed to help, we decided it was time for total knee replacement surgery. The care to assure the proper diagnosis and resultant solution was done in a very professional manner that instilled confidence that we were on the right path.

The procedure at Mary Immaculate Hospital went very well, and I was home the afternoon of the same day. With the help of pain medication, the physical therapy began in my home the next day. I also had the use of a RomTech therapy cycle for 3 weeks, which gradually helped to stretch and bend my knee. I am still in physical therapy and feeling improvement every day.

I can highly recommend Dr. Haynes and the OSC. Dr. Haynes professional and measured approach to my diagnosis was greatly appreciated. The staff at Mary Immaculate Hospital was very friendly, efficient, and careful especially in this time of the Covid pandemic.

Beverly Creekmore – Total Knee Replacement Surgery

Dr. Boyd Haynes, IIII went for my one year follow-up appointment today with Dr. Boyd Haynes for my total knee replacement surgery. All of my X-rays looked great and he said I had done great. This year has been so good, I was back in the gym in two weeks and I can now do any of the classes I want. The most important thing is I am totally pain free.

Thank you Dr. Haynes, you have been so good and you have such a great bed side manner. I would highly recommend him to all for knee replacement surgery. He’s the Best!!!

Dee Burcher – Physical Therapy for a Partially-Torn Bicep Muscle

Dr. Jamie SwaleTeam Haynes, once again to the rescue!
Through the suggestion of Dr. Boyd Haynes’ Physician Assistant, Chris Schwizer, I had an MRI done as I had major bicep pain. My MRI showed a partial tear.  This was almost 3 years after rotator cuff surgery…

So, off to the awesome PT Group at OSC Physical Therapy. With the extensive direction of Dr. Jamie Swale and about 8 visits… it was incredible! No pain and great mobility. Compassionate, Caring, Knowledgeable is the OSC PT Team.

Robert Hayes – Total Hip Replacement

Dr. Boyd Haynes, III

Dr. Boyd Haynes did a great job with my left hip arthroplasty. I picked him because of his experience, references from others, research, and his bedside manner. Post-surgery, I was motivated and anxious to get back to normal, so I picked the OSC Physical Therapy group for PT. Dr. Tom Toothaker and his staff (Bill Richards and Jay Norton) created and worked a plan for me that had me walking on my own with confidence within 4-5 weeks. They encouraged me to keep working on my own and provided a PT plan for me to follow to continue to build strength after being released from their care. Great group of professionals. If I need my right hip fixed, I know who to come to.

Pete Gallaccio – Hip Replacement Surgery

Dr. Haynes ready for surgeryI had a hip replacement performed by Dr. Boyd Haynes on December 9, 2020. Dr. Haynes and his staff were outstanding and made me feel completely comfortable about my decision to have the procedure. The Dr. and staff answered all the questions before, during, and after the procedure. In less than 5 days, I was walking without the support of walker or a cane. I contribute the success of the surgery not only towards the Dr. and staff but also to physically preparing my hip and leg prior to the surgery with strength-building exercises. I will not hesitate to use Dr. Haynes or OSC for any orthopaedic needs in the future.

Shelley Vasseur – Endoscopic Carpal & Cubital Tunnel Release Surgeries

Dr. Boyd Haynes

Dr. Boyd Haynes, ready for surgery

I would like to thank Dr. Boyd Haynes and his staff for not one, but two successful endoscopic carpal tunnel and endoscopic cubital tunnel surgeries; one on my right wrist and elbow and a month later on my left wrist and elbow. I researched extensively prior cubital surgery and HIGHLY recommend Dr. Haynes for his endoscopic expertise .

Traditional cubital tunnel surgery would have left considerable scars, and weeks of down time and physical therapy.

I could not have made a better decision to travel to Virginia from out of state to have these procedures done. I was on the road and pain free about an hour after waking up from surgery each time. No physical therapy required and I have 95% of my strength back 10 days post-surgery. Thank you again, Dr. Haynes!

Frank Huffman – Outpatient Total Knee Replacement

Image of Dr. Boyd HaynesI just had a second total knee replacement surgery.  The procedure was performed at 8:30 am and I was at home recovering by 12:30 PM. I think I beat the time of his first patient going home that day.  No pain.

Dr. Boyd Haynes is fantastic.  Went through six doctors before choosing him. I’ve had both knees replaced in the last six months.  I highly recommend him.

Fred Berger – Rotator Cuff Repair Surgery

Dr. Boyd Haynes, IIII found it harder and harder to lift my right arm and use it as I needed to. After much thought as to the trade off between a poorly functioning arm and major surgery, I decided to consult with Dr. Boyd Haynes.

He and his team of professionals did a thorough examination and laid out the rotator cuff surgery I would need and fully explained the recuperation processes.

The surgery went well and I followed Dr. Haynes instructions for my physical therapy to the letter. I can say that following the PT regimen has accounted for my rapid recovery and 100% use of my arm — without pain.

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Haynes and his team and can wholeheartedly recommend them to everyone.

Laura Moncure- Total Knee Replacement

Image of Dr. Boyd HaynesMy name is Laura and I have been living with left knee pain for over two and half years. I cannot take any type of NSAIDs because of a surgery I had over ten years ago. I had visited an orthopaedic specialist at Portsmouth Naval when my pain began. They tried the steroid injections, but refused to do surgery. I had asked them “will I eventually need the surgery?”  and both physicians said “yes”, because of my condition being bone-on-bone. My only option was to do Physical Therapy, which I did for over a year, three times a week. I also did water therapy, which was to no avail.

I dealt with the pain. Working 8 hour shifts on my feet constantly did not help the situation. I was told I was too young for knee replacement at (63) even though I already had a total hip replacement five years ago.

Upon turning 65, I was booted out of the military system and into Medicare. I saw a new family practice doctor, who recommended OSC to me. I made an immediate appointment. I was surprised how professional they were and the genuine concern they had for me and my problem. I was ready for another dismissal of my problem, but found Dr. Boyd Haynes listened and gave me several treatment options. I had decided on the surgery and he said that was the best solution.

I had scheduled the surgery date for February and had to cancel due to my low iron levels. I was encouraged to take the course on joint replacement at Mary Immaculate Hospital.  I found it was very useful and prepared me for the surgery, along with the exercises to do prior to surgery. I highly recommend taking the class and doing the exercises.

After the COVID-19 delays, I finally had my surgery in June.  Its been four weeks and I am healing quickly, but I also do my exercises as recommended by the therapist. I started regular Physical Therapy to get my range of motion back and only have to go twice a week. I am happy that I had a caring physician and nurses to aid in my success story. I highly recommend doing the surgery if you are presented the option and do what is recommended prior and after surgery. I can’t thank Dr. Haynes enough for giving me my life back with no pain.

Signed,

Laura Moncure
